World-leading higher education analytic service QS released its World University Rankings for 2022 recently. As we reviewed the list, we were pleased to see just how many of our Wellington pupils received offers from top universities on the list, including Oxbridge, G5 and Ivy League universities.
Our 2021 Wellington College China pupils from Tianjin and Shanghai are favoured by the world's top universities, setting a new record for Wellington College China. Among those pupils who have so far received their university decisions:
Almost 30% received at least one offer
from a top 10 school
Nearly 40% received offers from
a top 20 school
Nearly 70% of these pupils received
offers from the world's
top 50 universities
Receiving offers from every G5 university – including Oxford and Cambridge
This year, Wellington pupils have achieved the considerable feat of securing offers from each of the elite G5 universities. The G5 is a grouping of five universities in the UK known for their outstanding research and educational provision. These universities include The University of Oxford, The University of Cambridge, University College London (UCL), Imperial College London and London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
Many leavers even had offers from more than one of these universities.

Excellence in the Arts
In addition to achieving excellence in traditional academic subjects, many Wellington Leavers received offers from the world's top institutions for the creative and performing arts. Success in all disciplines
Our multi-talented Wellington Leavers are ready to pursue higher education in a diverse range of disciplines. As with previous years, STEM disciplines such as maths and engineering remain as the most popular choice of study among our leavers. It is, however, also exciting to see an increase in interest and success in applications to the medical fields this year, including medicine, medicinal chemistry, and biochemistry. Last, but not least, many leavers will begin their studies in the humanities and social sciences – with a number of successful applications to study economics, philosophy, law, politics and international relations.
Success in challenging times
Despite the many challenges of the past year, Wellington Leavers once again made record-breaking achievements. This was thanks, in no small part, to the perseverance of every Wellington pupil, as well as our dedicated academic staff and our professional university guidance team.
Members of our university guidance team — graduates from the world's top universities themselves — are equipped with the specialist knowledge and experience to help guide our pupils along the path to higher education. Starting from Year 9, each Wellington pupil receives tailored support to help them develop a university guidance plan tailored to their individual needs.
Although the global situation remained unstable for most of last year, our university guidance team remained dedicated – adapting the various planned events to this ‘new normal’. This included the considerable task of reorganising the annual global university fair to take place online.
At Wellington, apart from the fact that we achieve superb academic results and develop our pupils well-rounded skills, we are most proud of the Wellington Identity. This ensures that all Wellingtonians are encouraged to become Inspired, Intellectual, Independent, Individual and Inclusive pupils over the course of their studies here. We believe this is what truly makes a Wellington education so unique and valuable.
