Monday morning, under the rising sun,all the teachers and pupils gathered under the national flag, solemnly singing the national anthem.
Alice Chen and Ray Lu of Grade 7 hoisted the Red Flag up to the top.
Pupils’ speeches
Jessie Qian and Chris Chen gave speeches in both Chinese and English on the podium. On behalf of all Hiba pupils, they expressed their boundless hopes for the new semester and school. They said they are proud to join Hiba Academy Nantong as founding pupils.
We believe that they will eventually enter their ideal university, become the backbone of society, and successfully realize their life dreams in the coming years. We are sure they will take pride in their identity as Hiba's founding pupils at that time.
Master’s speech
Simon Kenworthy, Master of Hiba Academy Nantong, gave a speech under the flag. He firstly talked about the purpose as Hiba’s logo. It creates a bond and unity that brings the school community together and a sense of belonging and pride.
These are the same emotions we feel when we look at the national flag, which is the symbol of this great country. The Chinese national flag was created from the blood of tens of thousands of martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the benefit of the people. Chinese people should take pride and rejoice when the national flag flies high.
Mr Kenworthy also explained to the pupils the symbolism of the national flag of the People's Republic of China. The red background symbolizes the bloodshed throughout the country’s history. The five five-pointed stars and their interrelationships represent the great unity of the revolutionary people under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party. Each of the four smaller five-pointed stars faces the centre point of the big star, indicating that the workers, farmers, business owners and soldiers are united around the centre - the Chinese Communist Party.
Every Monday, we will gather under the flag to talk about ideals, reflect on the past and look forward to the future. We hope that Hiba pupils will have a deep sense of patriotism and cultural belonging, so they can both go abroad and come back to contribute to the great ejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
If education is prosperous, the country will be successful. If education is vigorous, the nation will be powerful. Education shoulders the critical mission of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
We aspire to create a caring, bilingual community that develops well-rounded individuals with strong values and the skills to thrive within an ever-changing global society at Hiba Academy Nantong. We remain dedicated to providing the best bilingual education and nurturing well-rounded, future-orientated talent who will help to build bridges between China and the rest of the world.
