On 6 June, our Summer Carnival brought the whole Hiba Nantong community together. It was a fun-filled afternoon of games, culture and camaraderie. Here is a look at the day’s highlights.
Fun in the Sun
The carnival got off to a roaring start with pupils from all four houses racing and cheering each other on.
To help everyone cool off in the summer heat, there were plenty of water activities to enjoy. Children whizzed down the Dream Octopus Slide, splashing into the pool with big smiles and laughter. The Bubble Party Pool was a huge hit, with pupils diving into water games and foam, while the Rainbow Junior Slides proved popular with those looking for a bit of speed and adventure.
There was plenty more fun on offer too, from classic arcade games to parent-child challenges and friendly competitions. With 12 different attractions to choose from, there was never a dull moment—every corner of the carnival buzzed with excitement and laughter.
Pupil and Teacher Performances
As the sun began to set, the games wrapped up and everyone gathered for an evening of performances. The show began with an energetic dance from both teachers and pupils, setting the stage for a fantastic night.
Pupils from Grades 1 through 5 performed scenes from well-loved musicals like Mamma Mia!, Mary Poppins, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Madagascar and Matilda.
The Hiba String Ensemble played a mix of classical and modern pieces that had the audience captivated. Our pupil band brought plenty of energy with their pop covers, and the teacher band surprised everyone with some classic hits—ending the night on a real high.
Global Cuisine and Culture
It wasn’t just games and music—over 40 stalls lined the carnival, each offering a taste of something different. Nantong’s famous indigo-dyed fabrics were on display, showing off the city’s unique heritage, while workshops let pupils try their hand at making traditional lacquer fans. Sugar painting artists wowed the crowds with their edible creations, and 3D printing displays drew plenty of curious onlookers.
The food stalls were just as popular, serving up treats from all over the world: spicy Mexican tacos, tasty Italian tiramisu and crispy Chinese pastries to name just a few.
With more international families taking part each year, our annual Summer Carnival has become a truly multicultural event for Nantong. It’s more than just a school celebration—it’s a chance for families from different backgrounds to come together, share their cultures and make new friends. Through food, art and fun, the carnival brings the whole community closer.
