Our first story features founding parent Cici, who, during her years with Hiba Academy Nantong, has witnessed her daughter Iris’s remarkable growth and progress, while gaining her own reflections and insights.
A Hiba Journey Built on
Shared Values
“In my heart, education should first help children grow into individuals of good character, and only then focus on academic achievements.”
—Cici
Parent
From the age of 16, Cici has held a deep affection for traditional Chinese culture. Immersed in the classics, she became convinced that knowledge shapes ability but character determines direction. Only those with responsibility, courage and a global outlook can navigate life’s journey with confidence.
When choosing a school for Iris, Cici sought one that would nurture academic excellence and develop character in a systematic and sustained way. The opening of Hiba Academy Nantong nearby meant she could have both, so she enrolled Iris at once, becoming a founding parent.
Three years on, Iris has progressed academically and shown remarkable growth in character and outlook. Cici has seen that Hiba’s values—kindness, respect, responsibility, courage and integrity—are not mere slogans but are embedded in daily life, quietly shaping the children’s inner worlds and guiding them towards positivity.
Stepping Back to
See More Possibilities
A turning point came during a four-day boarding camp. Teachers acted as guides, encouraging the pupils to think for themselves rather than stepping in to solve every problem. Iris not only managed daily challenges but also handled her emotions calmly. Seeing this, Cici began to reconsider her original roadmap.
Over time, Iris became more confident and independent. She voiced her opinions in class, presented her ideas in activities and responded thoughtfully when her mother suggested plans: “I’m not so interested in that right now. Let’s see later.”
Cici realised that children learn to listen inwards and speak outwards. She shifted from meticulous planning to wholehearted companionship. When Iris showed an interest in music, Cici encouraged her to explore. Through co-curricular activities, Iris tried bel canto, yangqin and piano. She discovered her passions through different melodies and rhythms.
Today, the roadmap still exists, but now Iris draws it for herself.
We look forward to introducing more Hiba parents as they share their own stories and reflections.
